Special Message - Remembering John Stanhagen
My Fellow Clark County Republicans;
It is with a heavy heart that I report
to you the passing of a great American and dedicated
Republican, Dr. John Stanhagen. John passed away yesterday
after a three month long fight with cancer. Details
of the services are stated at the end of this message,
but I would first like to share a few brief thoughts.
It is impossible to describe in this
short note John’s contribution to the Clark County
GOP for the many years that I knew him. Suffice it to
say that John’s contributions were boundless.
His commitment, infectious. His passion and skill for
all things Republican, monumental. John wasn’t
just a member of the Republican Party, he was an integral
part of the very fabric of the GOP. No doubt, our executive
board and central committee meetings will not be the
same without John’s moving voice.
Many
of you will remember John for his zealous and impassioned
debates and speeches at CCRCC meetings. He was never
content to just react to the issues of the day; his
nature compelled him to lead the charge on them. If
polling numbers and raw voter data needed to be crunched
or filtered, John was the man who could break it all
down for you and make it work. Not only could he eloquently
argue a position, he also did the “grunt”
work that most people wouldn’t, or couldn’t.
If you were a candidate, you wanted his counsel and
assistance. If you happened to be on the other side
of an issue, his wit and intelligence was overwhelming.
John Stanhagen served his family, our
community, and our party deeply. He was many things
to many people – a veteran, a university professor,
a county commission candidate, an executive board member,
an activist. But the most important thing that John
was to me, was a friend.
My friend, rest in peace.
